Why Therapy?
Therapy is a step toward self-awareness and being able to recognize your authentic self. As human beings, we crave connection and acceptance from others, but challenging emotions, negative self-talk, life, and stress can strain our relationships. The path to change and self-discovery can be a very daunting road, but traveling with a trusted guide (ie me) can make the journey a lot less overwhelming and scary! As a therapist, I will work with you to really find yourself and learn to have self-compassion and freedom from shame and guilt.
I have a special interest in working with women in all phases of life. I am certified in perinatal mental health and help women on the journey of becoming a new mom, the shift in identity, and feeling the need to be a constant "people pleaser" or caregiver. When a woman transitions into motherhood it can be one of the most wonderful times in her life, but it is also one of the most difficult and daunting times! And then there is the societal pressure that these times should be the most blissful (yeah right!) even though you have no sleep, barely recognize yourself when you look in the mirror (spit up in hair/pjs you have worn for days), and you now face the challenge of caring for this new baby. During this time, I believe that we should view mom and baby as a system. If one part of the system isn't cared for adequately; it makes caring for the other part much more challenging. Another special interest I have is working with survivors of trauma. My role is to provide support and nurturance to process emotions and be with the sensations in your body. I do believe that you can live the life you desire because we have so much power inside us and we just need some guidance to find it.
I provide individual therapy with adults of all ages. Finding a therapist that is the right fit for you is the first step toward freedom from suffering and a more fulfilling life.
